Former Skipper Looks Ahead to 2008

Nice nose Nipper!!OUTGOING Swords RFC skipper, Matt Child, has reflected on a mixed season and looked forward to the coming campaign. ‘Unfortunately this season didn't go quite to plan for myself or for the team,' Child said.‘After a late pre-season and one torn hamstring, the boys minus one captain, made a bad start to the league losing to Clondalkin and then to Malahide.

‘Although with some hard training courtesy of Tony Lawless we started to turn the performances if not the results around against J1 opposition in the cup and some new faces started to gel into the team notably the two new front rows Ed Flannery and Eoin O'Grioffa.‘We accumulated a few wins building up to Christmas and although the season finished as it started with results not going our way (and missing myself), the performances against the better teams in the league and a first appearance in the Towns Cup were something everyone could be proud of.

‘With the way the season has finished and the plans Tony and Richie Cowman have for the summer there, should be every chance that we are at the right end of the table in the up and coming season.' Shane Mulligan has taken over as the new Swords RFC 1st team captain for the coming campaign.
