AGM 2007 News!!
Shane Mulligan has been named the new captain of Swords Rugby Club, following the club's AGM last week in ALSAA.
The Athlone native has been a key member of the side, packing down at number 8, and last season took on the vice-captain's role, supporting captain Matt Child. Following a vote, Shane pipped first team player of the year, Malachy Bradley, to the position, who himself was a former captain.
Tony Lawless was confirmed as first team coach for another season and declared that 'the hard work starts now', as the club prepare for a serious push for promotion.
Alan Butler is the new First Team Manager, replacing Peter Keating, and all in attendance paid tribute to Peter and to assistant coach, Derek Brennan, for their support during the year.
Richie Cowman was re-elected President, while Dave Cahill has been named as vice-President. Outgoing vice-President, Joe Reid, takes on the role of Honourary Secretary, replacing Damian Coleman, who stepped down from the committee.
Both Damian and Joe - who is the immediate past President - were thanked for all their hard work over the years.
Brian Vaughan was once again named Fixtures Secretary and received many plaudits for his efforts during the season, as did Ben Traynor, who retained his position as Treasurer, with Dave Kelliher Assistant Treasurer. Leo Price was commended for his efforts as Second Team Captain and duly retained the post, while Alan Butler remains International Ticket Co-ordinator and Shane Mulligan was named webmaster once more.
The position of Youth Co-Ordinator remained unfilled, but it is hoped an appointment will be made in the coming weeks, as the club expands its underage ranks.
The club reflected on an eventful season on and off the pitch and looked forward to an exciting season, with pre-season training set to kick-off in August. |
