Dinner Dance a Great Success!!

PLAYERS past and present gathered in ALSAA on Saturday night as Swords Rugby Club held their inaugural end of season dinner and awards night. With most in attendance bedecked in the official club colours and with partners looking suitably dressed to impress, it was a night to remember and the perfect was to cap off an important year in the club's history. Club President, Richie Cowman, welcomed the guests - including a sizeable contingent of former Aer Lingus RFC players (the club's previous name) - who enjoyed a wonderful dinner, auction, raffle and disco.
A montage of images from the 59 years the club have been in existence was displayed on a big screen throughout the evening and there was a fine mix between ‘the old and the new'.
Over 180 attended on the night and watched Malachy Bradley take the First Team Player of the Year Award, while Jamie Gormly took the Second Team award.
A vote was also taken on the night for the Players' Player of the Year award, which deservedly went to Loic Guyomarc'h, with the French native the clear winner.
Long time club servant, Paddy Corkery, entered the club's Hall of Fame and received a standing ovation for all his work through the years.
The star of the show however, was Mossie Merrigan, as the Limerickman raised a huge amount presiding over an auction. A signed Munster shirt, Irish jersey and golf rounds all went under the hammer and Mossie made sure the price was right.
Dave Cahill also ran a successful raffle with some fantastic prizes up for grabs, which also raised a big amount for the club on the night.
President Cowman thanked all those who had helped put the event together, particularly Dave Cahill and Shane Mulligan, and also thanked all those who donated some excellent spot prizes.‘It's good to see so many old faces down here tonight,' he said. ‘We are moving onto bigger and better things and we hope to see you here as we go forward next season.'
