Rugby - Swords RFC Launch

The countdown has begun. It is now just a matter of days before Swords Rugby Club officially launch under their new name, with a grand open day this Sunday in ALSAA. A challenge game with Fingal rivals Skerries will be the highlight of the day, while local TD Jim Glennon and members of the Leinster side will also be in attendance on the day.

A number of presentations will be made and a function will be held in the clubhouse afterwards. All involved are thoroughly looking forward to the launch, a culmination of weeks of hard work by the clubs committee. With the first and second team squads well into pre-season, numbers are high and a lot of interest from new members around the Swords area has resulted in new faces at each training session. The new website has also helped to generate interest and promote the game in the town.

Following the addition of Malahide to Division 3 of the Leinster league, the revised fixture list has been published and the two sides are due to meet in the last league fixture of the season on January 29th in ALSAA. Considering Swords - under their old name of ALSAA - finished joint second in the league last season and the strength in depth of Malahide, both sides will be expected to be among the favourites for promotion and the fixture could prove crucial as to who goes up.
