Mini Season Set to Kick-Off

THE future stars of Swords Rugby Club will kick-off their new campaign this weekend, as the Fingal outfit launches its mini rugby section.
The club have invested heavily in youth development and will this season field teams at under-13, under-12, under-10 and under-8, as their underage section steadily grows. The launch will take place in Brackenstown at 10am, on Sunday, September 28th and all players are welcome, both with or without prior experience.
‘After a busy summer planning for the new season, Swords RFC are delighted to launch our mini rugby section this week,' club president, Alan Butler said.
‘We made real progress at underage level last season, with hundreds of children taking part in our coaching programmes and our mini teams performing well on the pitch.
‘Once again, our youth development officer, Jamie Gormly, has been hard at work in the local schools and we are hopeful of a big turnout. ‘A number of members have also undertaken coaching courses in recent weeks, ensuring all players receive the best possible training and with favourable player-coach ratios.'
The club are aiming to cater for as many youngsters as possible and are planning to run a ‘nursery' section, for those not old enough to play for one of the teams listed above.‘As the club grows, we are hopeful of expanding our underage section at both ends of the age spectrum,' Mr Butler added.
‘With that in mind, we would encourage any boys, aged five upwards, to come down and join in our nursery training, which will be a series of fun, non-contact, rugby related games.'
