Junior Coaches Needed!
FINGAL'S fastest growing rugby club is looking to get even bigger - and it needs your help.
Swords RFC, formerly Aer Lingus and ALSAA, fielded their first underage teams two seasons ago and will begin mini rugby in the town in September.
With that in mind, the club are looking to hear from any parents or volunteers who may be interesting in helping the next generation of future rugby stars.‘Our mini section is a vital component to the development of the club as a whole,' a Swords RFC spokesperson said.
‘A town with a population the size of Swords needs its own team and where better to start than at the youngest level.'
Training for the U-12 and U-10 teams will begin at the end of the summer and a huge launch day and blitz is also planned.
‘The minis will hopefully be based in Balheary Park, right in the heart of Swords, so it should be easy for people to access,' the spokesperson continued.
‘We're looking for any parents who might have a bit of free time on their hands to come on board and help out. ‘Maybe they have played before or maybe they have children who are interested in picking up the oval ball.‘Either way, they'd be more than welcome to assist our coaches. And if they're keen on actually taking up coaching, we'd be more than happy to organise coaching courses for them.'
The club are also growing at the other end of the age spectrum with the first ever Under-18 team set to line out this season, a highly significant step.
‘Most of the team will be made up from the original Under-14 and Under-16 team from two years back, so it's good to see they have come through together.‘We're looking to have the mini rugby in the town and then the other youth teams up at ALSAA, along with the senior teams.'
All in all, another exciting season is on the cards for the boys in green, at all levels.
