Just two days now to the Club Golf Classic on Friday the 10th May 2103 at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club. We really need all members to come through with a team and/or a sponsor for the day, if you are short of one or two for the golf let the lads know and I’m sure they can fix you up with one or two of the other spares floating around. We can’t stress strongly enough how the club needs it’s members to step up and support this event, it simply won’t work without YOUR support.

The aim of the classic is to raise funds to support the clubs ongoing activities particularly in the area of youth development. The competition will be run in a champagne scramble format with an entry fee of €160 per team of four (meal incl.). sponsorships start as low as €50 so we would ask all members to reach out to their contacts and source some sponsorship for the day.

Just a quick note to remind you all that it is now less than 2 days to the “The Gathering” dinner dance this Friday night. It’s really shaping up to be a great night with a great cross section of current, recent and some not so recent members of the club confirmed to attending. A ticket collection point will be open in the bar from 19:30 for anyone looking to pickup and/or pay for their tickets.

Please note the night will kick’s off at 20:00 sharp with dinner,  the bar is of course open before hand so get in good and early…. there is no excuse for being late!!

The 1^st team Leinster League promotion/relegation play off game against Birr RFC has been fixed for this Sunday the 7^th April in Cill Dara RFC (Kildare) with a 15:00 KO. This is a huge game for the club and we’d ask everyone to make a special effort to get out to support the players and the club on the day.

Directions form Dublin: Take the M7 towards Cork/Limerick. Take the exit at J13 sign posted Kildare Town. Coming to the roundabout take the 2nd exit, then at the next roundabout take the first exit.Continue straight until you come to the T junction. Take a right. At the third set of traffic lights in the center of the town take a left. Keep going straight passed the train station and over the railway bridge. Keep going straight until you come to a fork in the road, take the left road. At the next crossroads take a left.  Keep going going down this road for about 1km and the club will be on your right.

Mossie Worldwide International Tours are proud to present the “What would Kenny do?” Tour!! This seasons end of year tour sees the club head to Newcastle on Friday the 10th of May for two days of  team bonding and intensive pre-season fitness workouts.

The touring party will meet in The Cock Tavern Swords at 18:00 on the 10th, with a flight to Newcatle at 20:25 where they will be presented with their specially commissioned Kenny Nuzum Hawaiian Tour Shirts for the nights activities. Saturday sees the usual early start, tour of the Newcastle Brown Ale Brewery followed by Paintballing, with that evenings dress code……. well what can I say other than “The Swords Babies hit the town”!! Sunday afternoon is the court session with return flight to Dublin at 19:00.

Total cost is €350 with deposits of €100 to Choc, Taz or Gambo by Tuesday the 26th. Mossie is not taking no for an answer, so no excuses, maybes or we’ll see… attendance is mandatory!!

“The Gathering” Club Dinner Dance

Dear All,

Club Members past and present, on the 19th April Swords RFC will host “The Gathering”, a dinner dance hoping to bring together a gathering of past, present members and friends of Swords, Alsaa and Aer Lingus Rugby Clubs.

Recent weeks has seen the very sudden loss of Paul McInerney and Ken Nuzum, both of whom have played a huge part in the history of our Club, a massive shock to everyone and our deepest sympathies to their families.

The night will also honour the 20th anniversary of the clubs first league winning side, which both Paul and Ken were a major part of.

Recent events have highlighted the importance of trying to get everyone together in the one room, and we look forward to meeting all old friends on the night.

So dust off the suits and get the other half a new Guna and let’s have a gathering to remember.  Tickets available from any committee member or info@swordsrfc.com  get in early to avoid disapointment!!

Paul McInerney R.I.P.

In what has already been a tragic week for the club it is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Paul McInerney, his funeral details are as per below:-

Importantly please note that Sundays Leinster League J1 firsts fixture away against Athy has been postponed (i.e. is off) to allow members attend the funeral (thanks to the branch for accommodating us in the postponement).

“McInerney Paul (Kilmurry & Lahinch, County Clare)-28th February 2013. Loving husband of Martina, devoted father of Laura, Fiona and Sophie. Much loved son of Susan and the late Pakie, brother of Padraig, Thomas, Siobhan, Declan and Colette. Sadly missed by his loving family, mother-in-law Patsy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,uncles, aunts, nephews and niece, relatives, neighbours and friends RIP. Reposing at his residence on the Liscannor Road, Lahinch, on Sunday March 10th from 4 o’clock followed by removal at 6 o’clock to Mary Immaculate Church, Lahinch. Mass on Monday at 11 o’clock followed by burial in Kilmacreehy Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations if desired to Temple Street Children’s Hospital or the Irish Heart Foundation.”

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Kenneth “Kenny” Nuzum yesterday after a short illness. Kenny was a true legend of the game in Leinster and a great club man, tourer and friend (see http://www.swordsrfc.com/clubinfo-halloffame.htm ). He will be sadly missed by everyone at the club and our thoughts and condolences are with his children Andrew and Nevada and the rest of his extend family.

Importantly please note that Saturdays Metro J4 seconds game against CYM  has been postponed (i.e. is off) to allow members attend the funeral. The firsts Leinster League game against Athy on Sunday will go ahead with a minutes silence for Kenny at the start of the match, we’ve made the decison to go ahead with this match as we all know Kenny would hate to see any games cancelled because of him!!

His funeral details are as  follows:-

“Nuzum (Powerstown Road, Clonee, Co.Meath) March 6th. 2013 (peacefully) at St. James’s Hospital. Kenneth, beloved husband of the late Noelle and dear father of Andrew and Nevada. Sadly missed by his loving son, daughter, brothers Clive and Trevor, sisters Vera and Margaret, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, relatives and friends. Removal from Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Clonsilla to St. Brigid’s Church, Castleknock Village on Friday evening arriving at 6.00 o’c. Funeral Service on Saturday at 12.00 noon followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard.”
